Over the years I try to pick up vintage company catalogs and the old magazines from the 20s and 30s. Do you know how hard it is to find this stuff? Very. I'll admit to not searching constantly, but only because it's so darn frustrating. Although I love to read the articles in the magazines as they talk about the ways to decorate and set the Christmas table, it's the catalogs I really love. I want to know more about when something is made, what it might have sold for, etc. That's what started Mark Podmore on his catalog quest, but he's taken it to a whole new level. Mark's huge collection of holiday catalogs is slowly being scanned, a treasure house for collectors!

Seems as though one person’s junk is another’s treasure, but it is interesting to look back and get a real glimpse on how life used to be.
If we were all hoarders, there would be a lot more cool stuff around, right? Now that we can recycle so much, I have a tendency to at least try to toss certain unnecessary stuff. Getting a new phone book almost always leads to disposing of the old one, for me, anyway. My girlfriend and I have recently been visiting the once smallish town where we grew up. Now that it has grown and changed so much, we realize how cool and valuable it would be to have a few old phone books from the fifties and sixties as a reference to recall where things and people used to be. People all had land lines, and they weren’t so concerned about revealing their addresses and numbers. It was almost as if they WANTED to be found!
