What time is it? Girl Scout Cookies time! It's that time of the year when the door bell will be ringing as the little ones go door to door selling our favorite cookies. The cookie sales have been going on since 1917 when the first cookies were offered in a high school cafeteria as a service project. For many years the scouts made their own sugar cookies and sold them for .25 - .35 a dozen.Today's cookies are baked by two licensed bakeries that bake a maximum of eight varieties. What is offered in your community depends on what bakery made them.
Of course some of us might not have the problem of storing the cookies, as they are quickly gone, but if you're looking for a perfect jar -- consider the Girl Scout jar shown here. Unfortunately it's no longer for sale through the Girl Scouts, so look for it on the secondary markets.
Just for fun, help me out here by telling us your favorite Girl Scout cookie in the comment section below.
Choices in our area are: Trefoils, Samoas, Thin Mints, Lemon Chalet Cremes, Thank U Berry Munch (new), Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos and Dulce de Leche.
