Okay, we know this is not an antique. We're not even sure it's really a collectible. In fact I'm not sure about anything except it's a kitchen utensil and we can't figure out what it's supposed to be used for. It is NOT a bottle or jar opener, doesn't "fit" on either.

Scroll down to the end of the comments to find out the Answer!

Last week's Mystery Antique of the Week is still a stumper, take a look again and see if you can help out. It appears to be some sort of embosser and possibly used for baking? Do you know?

(1) Ed says:

I’m guessing it is some sort of plate or cookie sheet holder.

(2) JJL says:

I’ve even SEEN one of those. And I have no idea (or memory) of what it is for.

(3) Nancy says:

I’ve seen one, too! (And, sadly, don’t know what it is either.)

(4) LeRoy says:

That sharp hook closest to the handle looks like a can opener.
The other end is a hanger upper. Don’t know about the end hook.

(5) collectibles says:

Tried to use it as a can opener, does not work for that

(6) Pat says:

Does it poke holes into a jar cover, releasing the pressure, thus allowing you to open it?

August 24, 2011 at 11:24 am
(7) collectibles says:

Tried that too.. that was a suggestion. Nope doesn’t do that either

(8) Joyce says:

I think it’s a spaghetti fork, meant to pull spaghetti out of the boiler water.

August 24, 2011 at 11:25 am
(9) collectibles says:

too short a handle for that. would burn yourself reaching into a spaghetti pot

(10) ann says:

Looks a lot like a pasta ladle but I’ve never seen one where the tines (or whatever you’d call them) are so hook-like.

(11) Newlyweds Guide Francesca says:

We use that for serving long pastas, such as linguine or angel hair. I know lots of Italians who do the same.

(12) carol says:

If it doesn’t work as a can opener like the old fashioned “keys” used to, say, to open a can of tuna fish; and it doesn’t work as a bottle opener to, say, open a bottle of Coke from an old fashioned vending machine; then could it be to break the vacuum seal on jars of home canned food? Just a thought.

(13) matt lagreca says:

i think it is part of a frosting dispencer.

August 24, 2011 at 1:08 pm
(14) Michael says:

My guess is a fruit scooper.

August 24, 2011 at 2:36 pm
(15) LizM says:

Looks like a pasta ladle to me as well. The sides look like they might be shaped for measuring the uncooked pasta?

August 24, 2011 at 2:51 pm
(16) Helen says:

This is a can opener and jar opener in one

August 24, 2011 at 2:56 pm
(17) connie says:

it is a pasta stirer

August 24, 2011 at 3:08 pm
(18) Sharon says:

I agree it is some sort of a server. If the spaces between “tines” are different sizes, then the pasta measure makes sense. If it is too short for using when cooking, maybe it is just for serving pasta at table.

Could it be used for scooping ice cream? Is it too large for scooping olives or pickles out of a jar – allowing liquid to drain off? What about serving salad? A puzzle indeed!

August 24, 2011 at 3:13 pm
(19) Tonya Lee says:

It does look like a pasta server but you are right – the handle is way too short. Someone else guessed fruit. I have a feeling that it has a much more specific and utilitarian function than being a server … it’s just not pretty enough for a server. Let us know if you ever figure it out!

August 24, 2011 at 4:58 pm
(20) Molly Hall says:

My guess is spaghetti picker upper. I saw after guessing that someone dubs it that. You could lift it out in a circular motion, keeping hold of the pasta in the teeth.

August 24, 2011 at 5:45 pm
(21) Sukhmandir Kaur says:

Looks like an ice cream scoop to me, but looking closer at it’s construction, I’d say a pasta server so that the water drains or even a salad server. Seems to be a versatile instrument can probably be used for what ever works. I often use our pasta server to serve salad works great.

(22) merrily says:

Could it be for cleaning out a pumpkin to make a jack-o-lantern for Halloween?

August 25, 2011 at 6:17 am
(23) Nova Minick says:

This looks to me to be a bottle/lid opener.

August 25, 2011 at 2:20 pm
(24) wanda deutsch says:

used for taking hot pans out of the oven ie corningware

August 25, 2011 at 8:06 pm
(25) Joyce L. says:

Looks like the gadget used to release ice cubes from metal cube trays.

Like Wanda, I also thought of removing pie tins from oven or just moving pans around in oven.

August 28, 2011 at 2:53 pm
(26) Sue Davis says:

Looks like the old can opener we used back in the 40’s and 50’s.

(27) barbcrews says:

It appears that Ed was the first one right in his guess. Although this looks like a bottle/jar opener, and several folks were guessing pasta fork, it wouldn’t work for those uses. BUT when I tried to grab a hold of a cookie sheet or pan, it works. I’m not sure I would trust it 100%, but that appears to be the intended use.
