This article recently caught my attention -- little did I know there was an association for bookend collectors, Bookend Collectors Club, but then on the other hand why not? Bookends are on their way to becoming my newest obsession. So far I've managed to curb my enthusiasm, but it's been difficult. I do need bookends, we have many hundreds of books in shelves around the house and even though some shelves are filled enough not to require them, I need to give the books a bit more space. Hence - bookends!
I've decided to start right at the beginning by only considering one type of bookend, it must contain a dog! It makes the hunt more interesting and so far has been easier on my checkbook. But I've also seen wonderful examples of dog bookends selling for hundreds of dollars, but I am trying not to go there yet - not until I learn more about the interesting collectible of bookends.

Well, they do take up less space than cookie jars, are useable, and for the most part you don’t have to worry about breakage during shipping. Does your husband know about this new obsession? (grin) Nice article, by the way. I, too, had no idea about the collectiblity of bookends.
