Bernie Madoff and Antiques & Collectibles

Follow me on:

If there is any good news at all in the Bernie Madoff scandal, it's that he is finally in jail awaiting sentencing instead of under penthouse arrest. But all the bad news keeps filtering through and even those of us who think we aren't directly affected in reality are.

Case in point is the story of the family of Rabbi Alexander Schindler. He was a victim and now his wife is forced to sell sacred treasures from their collection. Rabbi Schindler was the head of the largest wing of Reform Judaism and leader of the World Jewish Congress. When he retired he was given sacred treasures dating back centuries. Instead of staying in the family these rare treasures will need to be auctioned off.

Jonathan Greenstein, the leading expert on antique Judaica, said "Very few objects of this quality survived the Holocaust," adding that Madoff raided "little old ladies' bank accounts" like the Nazis raided the temples.

I plan to be talking with Mr. Greenstein (J. Greenstein & Co) in the near future and get more information on this auction that will be held in June.

My heart goes out to Rabbi & Mrs. Schindler. It would be a kindness if people collected money to help the Schindlers redeem at least some of the things they are having to sell.
I’m a Christian but it is incredibly sad to think the Shindlers must sell things that are “sacred” objects of their faith, & gifts as well.
If someone starts a fund to help the Schlinders to redeem some of their treasures:
please post the address on your site.
I wish I could buy the whole thing & give it back to the Schlinders but I cannot. So I would want to contribute to a fund that would help the Schlinders to retain at least some of their most sacred treasures. Both online & snail mail address’ could allow people to contribute to this cause.
If everyone who cares that others are suffering, at least some of their things might be redeemed, & to know people care might comfort them a bit in the midst of this difficult time.
God blesses even the smallest gift of kindness. Please consider this & perhaps discuss it with the auction house? If anyone does this, please post information.
Blessing to Rabbi & Mrs.Schindler & to all who were damaged by the incredible “Ponzi” betrayal.
If we as Americans don’t stand together, we will fall apart. God help our beautiful country.
