Campaign Fever

Although I usually have a news channel on while working on the computer, the last few weeks I've been more than a passive listener. Between the Olympics and political conventions, I've become an avid watcher and participant as I yell back at the screen. Which all leads into collecting items from current events. Both events have avid longtime collectors, with new people drawn into the hobby when things become particularly exciting. Like this year with Phelps' eight gold medals and now an election campaign that has already proven to be groundbreaking, no matter what side of the fence you're on.

I'm waiting for the first jugate pins to be issued by my favorite candidate -- just so I can have it. Will it lead to a collection? I'm not sure, I already have a small handful of campaign pins that have appealed to me over the years and I usually display them with my patriotic stuff different times during the year. Our children and grandchildren may not realize the signifance of these events as they are now happening, but will later on as they look back on the happenings of the day. In the hopes that they will be interested in history when they get older, I'm putting together a small collection of campaign memorabilia for the grandkids. I'll include a few campaign pins, postcards and perhaps a news magazine with an appropriate cover. Any suggestions for the memory box?
