More from the U.S. Mint:
The Oregon quarter is the third state quarter released in 2005. On February 14, 1859, Oregon became the 33rd state admitted into the Union, and as such, it is the 33rd coin to be issued in the United States Mint’s popular 50 State Quarters® Program. The image on the quarter’s reverse (tails side) shows a portion of Crater Lake, viewed from the south-southwest rim. Crater Lake, the focal point of Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon is so clear that one can see 134 feet below the surface. The quarter design also features conifers and incorporates Wizard Island, as well as Watchman and Hillman Peaks on the lake’s rim. The coin bears the inscription “Crater Lake” and the date “1859.”
